Identity Testing of Incoming Raw Ingredients

By Karen S. Mann, Quality Control Analyst, Mineral Resources International, Inc.

Safety and quality are our top concern at MRI. To insure consistency in the composition of raw ingredients, such as herbs and food concentrates used in MRI's dietary supplement tablets, our laboratory uses Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR).

This technique involves passing infrared radiation through a sample of the raw ingredient. During this testing process, some of the radiation is absorbed by the sample (absorbance), while the remainder of the energy passes through it (transmittance). Because each material absorbs and transmits the radiation in a unique way, this analysis provides a “fingerprint” for each raw ingredient.

With this information, we are then able to compare each new batch of raw ingredients with previous batches of the same material, thus allowing us to maintain consistency in the production of all of our products.

We are committed to manufacturing safe, high-quality dietary supplements. Please feel free to contact us at MRI if you have any further questions about the identity testing we conduct at MRI or for any other questions about our procedures—testing or otherwise—that we have implemented to ensure quality at MRI.
